My Skills

I qualified as a doctor in 1987 and did my 3 year GP vocational training in Buckinghamshire. This training honed my skills in Elderly Medicine, Psychiatry, Accident and Emergency Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as General Practice. I took up a full time partnership in Amersham and that was fairly swiftly followed by part-time work during my child-bearing years where I gained plenty of experience in parenting (and paediatrics) while bringing up our 3 boys.

I have always had an interest in how the mind can affect the body and also the interplay between our thoughts, feelings and behaviour  and in 2009 studied for the Medical Diploma in Hypnosis at The London College of Clinical Hypnosis. This included a strong cognitive behavioural component which I find works very well in tandem with hypnosis in the therapeutic setting.

The combination of my broad experience of over 20 years in General Practice and a comprehensive understanding of the processes and useful clinical applications of CBT and Medical Hypnosis, as well as a genuine curiosity in people, has propelled me forwards into a fulfilling portfolio career.

I firmly believe in having a foot hold in the NHS and the importance of  practising evidence based medicine. I work as a GP tutor at Oxford University as well as a GP Appraiser and teach and supervise our GP registrars coming through the practice. I combine all my skills working as an Integrated Health Practitioner at The Healthy Balance Clinic, Great Missenden and also work privately doing CBT and Hypnotherapy from home and in Harley Street.
