APPOINTMENTS: 020 7299 0385
Q: How much do you charge for each appointment and how long do they last?
A: I charge £325 for an initial 60 minute medical consultation. Follow up medical consultations are 30 mins and charged at £185 which is inclusive of any private prescriptions. Repeat prescriptions are charged at £65 including postage. Any reports for your NHS GP Practice which incorporate a detailed history, diagnosis and management plan with regard to Hypermobility/PoTS/MCAS are charged at £130. I charge £250 for each CBT/Hypnotherapy appointment.
Q: How is appointment confirmed and why is payment required in advance?
A: Your appointment will be confirmed via email as a Google Calendar invite with information about internet (BACS) payment. Any appointments not confirmed within 3 days may be allocated to another patient. Payment is now taken in advance as a way of confirming your appointment and reducing ’no shows’. If you do need to re-arrange your appointment before confirmation then please email pa@drkatebarnes.co.uk or tel 020 7299 0385.
Q: Are appointments face to face or virtual, and where are they?
A: Increasingly first appointments are on Zoom which saves time and energy travelling. However some patients benefit from and need face to face appointments. There is some flexibility regarding choice with appointments being available in Harley St and Amersham. I also offer ‘walk and talk’ appointments. Some follow appointments are conducted by telephone. CBT/Hypnotherapy generally works better being together particularly for a first appointment.
Q: Regarding hypnotherapy with CBT – on how many occasions are you likely to need to see me?
A: I generally see patients 3 or 4 times, sometimes with homework and recordings to listen to between appointments. I may subsequently organize a follow up appointment a few weeks later which may or may not be needed.
Q: I don’t like the idea of hypnotherapy, please can I see you for just CBT?
A: Yes, no problem. I do a six session structured CBT programme using my own material which can be used between sessions to add value to the process.
Q: Do you see children as well as adults?
A: I particularly enjoy seeing children, and find them extremely receptive. They usually have a very vivid imagination which works very well with the visualisation used in the relaxation techniques with the hypnotherapy. I will often see them in my own home, a non clinical environment which can feel less threatening. The most common problems I see in children are anxiety-related disorders, sleep disorders, phobias, eating issues, and exam nerves.
Q: Are you able to prescribe medication?
A: As a medical doctor I am able to prescribe but would only do this with a good understanding of the patient’s general health and knowledge of other medication. I may advise discussion with your own GP first but would only do this with your consent.
Q: Where do you see patients?
A: I see patients at 10, Harley St, London W1. I also consult from my home in Amersham, Bucks. Location is dependent on patient desirability, availability and best therapeutic setting.
Q: Can I see you as a private GP?
A: Yes. I offer some evening and weekend appointments.
Q: Will I be covered on my Private Health Insurance for treatment with you?
A: This varies depending on your type of cover and your Insurance Company. Contact your Health Insurance Company in the first instance for further information.
Q: What is the cancellation policy?
A: Any appointment that is not cancelled before the preceding 24 hours will be charged at the full rate.
