My Skills

I qualified as a doctor in 1987 and did my 3 year GP vocational training in Buckinghamshire. This training honed my skills in Elderly Medicine, Psychiatry, Accident and Emergency Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as General Practice. I took up a full time partnership in Amersham and that was fairly swiftly followed by part-time work during my child-bearing years where I gained plenty of experience in parenting (and paediatrics) while bringing up our 3 boys.

I have always had an interest in how the mind can affect the body and also the interplay between our thoughts, feelings and behaviour  and in 2009 studied for the Medical Diploma in Hypnosis at The London College of Clinical Hypnosis. This included a strong cognitive behavioural component which I find works very well in tandem with hypnosis in the therapeutic setting.

The combination of my broad experience of over 25 years in NHS GP, the latter years of which included working as a GP Tutor at Oxford University, GP Appraiser and teaching GP registrars, and subsequent training in the clinical applications of Cognitive Behavioural and Medical Hypnosis in 2009 set me up for a fulfilling portfolio career. In the last 5 years I have also developed a special interest in Hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. As both expert patient and Dr I have developed a sound knowledge base in diagnosing and managing this complex, misunderstood condition and its associated conditions of PoTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) and MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) I currently act as a medical advisor to the EDS UK Charity.
